WASHINGTON – The US Commerce Department’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced in a press release that it will host its second annual career fair for veterans with specialized IT experience in software development, software testing, IT project management, usability, database administration, SaaS, cloud engineering, performance engineering or desktop support services on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Sponsored by USPTO’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Human Resources (OHR) the free, two-day event will offer veterans who are currently transitioning or have recently transitioned from active duty and looking for a new career the opportunity to interview on site with OCIO hiring managers for current vacancies.

“The USPTO hopes to hire 200 employees to help build next generation systems for Patents and Trademarks,” said Chief Information Officer John Owens. “This career fair for veterans with specialized IT experience is the fastest way for us to meet highly-skilled service men and women who can help us keep up with the pace of technological change.”

Attendees will hear directly from USPTO Chief Information Officer John Owens as well as a panel of current USPTO veteran employees who will share their personal stories of success in transitioning from active duty to Federal service. Participants will also get the chance to meet fellow veterans who were hired at last year’s inaugural event in June 2014, many of whom were actively working at USPTO within two months after their on-site interview.
