GENEVA - University of Geneva Rector Jean-Dominique Vassalli and WIPO Director General Francis Gurry and signed a cooperation agreement on March 18, 2013 to strengthen collaboration between the WIPO and the University of Geneva (UNIGE) in the field of intellectual property education and training. According to UNIGE, this is first agreement between WIPO and a Swiss university in this field.

Under the agreement, WIPO and UNIGE will jointly organize an annual summer school on intellectual property in Geneva, as well as conferences, workshops, symposia and other programs of common interest.  The agreement also provides for the exchange of teaching materials and publications. In addition, UNIGE becomes a member of the WIPO Depository Library Program, under which the University will be provided with all WIPO publications on a complimentary basis. In this capacity the university will serve as a reference source for the general public wishing to consult WIPO publications.

This agreement is part of the overall strategy of the University to strenghten the cooperation with international organizations and confirms the importance of Geneva in the field of intellectual property.
