MANAMA - The Kingdom of Bahrain deposited its instrument of accession to the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its intellectual property framework and aligning its national legislation with international best practices, according to the official website of Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The instrument of accession was deposited during a ceremony held at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva in the presence of Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, and Maryam Abdulaziz Al Doseri, Commercial Attaché at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Geneva.

The Locarno Agreement, administered by WIPO, establishes a unified international classification system for industrial designs, facilitating the registration and administration of industrial design rights while promoting consistency and international cooperation among intellectual property offices.

Bahrain’s accession to the Agreement underscores the Kingdom’s continued commitment to enhancing its intellectual property system, fostering innovation and creativity, and creating an enabling environment for investment and economic growth, in line with Bahrain’s sustainable development objectives.
