Management Board and Budget Committee Meet at the EUIPO

ALICANTE - The Management Board and Budget Committee meetings of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) took place at the Office’s premises from 7 to 9 of June, a press release stated by EUIPO.

The EUIPO’s Management Board and Budget Committee are made up of representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission and the EU Member States.

In addition, representatives from the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, the European Patent Office, the World Intellectual Property Office and the Community Plant Variety Office and user associations attend the meetings as observers during the non-confidential sessions.

During the meetings, the members adopted a reserve list of candidates and appointed two members of the Office’s Boards of Appeal, as well the EUIPO’s 2021 Consolidated Annual Activity Report (which will be published at a later stage in our Transparency Portal).

The MBBC members were also informed about the Progress Report on the implementation of the Office’s activities , including the projects under the Strategic Plan 2025,
the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of Regulation (EU) No 386/2012, which entrusted the Office with the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, as well as about other achievements of the past decade .

During the meeting, several other subjects were presented including the 2022 Customer Satisfaction Survey, the implementation of the SME Fund 2021 and 2022, developed as a response to the challenges of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the implementation of ECP6, a European Cooperation Project that aims to empower SMEs through their IP rights, as well as the Progress Report of the Action Plan of the Boards of Appeal 2021-2026 .

During the Budget Committee meeting, members granted discharge to the Executive Director of the Office for the implementation of the Budget for the 2020 financial year,
received information on the budget implementation for 2021 and an overview of the first quarter of 2022. They were also updated on the state of play of the Office’s treasury management and the status of the Office’s campus.

Furthermore, the delegates were invited to review and provide an opinion on the distribution key to be applied to offset the costs incurred by the central industrial property offices of the Member States and the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property. This follows the successful implementation of the model for the last three years.
