Community Input Needed: SSAD ODP Questionnaire

11-Jul-2021 | Source : The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) | Visits : 3398

LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organization announced in a press release that it has launched the System for Standardized Access/Disclosure (SSAD) Operational Design Phase (ODP) Community Questionnaire to help determine how many potential users are expected to use the SSAD and the anticipated volume of requests if it is implemented. The questionnaire will play a critical role in assessing the feasibility and associated risks, costs, and resources required in the potential deployment of SSAD.

ICANN org is looking for participation from community members who request nonpublic domain name registration data. A separate questionnaire will be sent to generic top-level domain (gTLD) registries and ICANN-accredited registrars to gauge how many requests for nonpublic gTLD registration data they currently receive. The questionnaire will help inform the following questions from the ICANN Board's SSAD ODP Scoping Document:

1. 3.1.5.2: What is the expected volume the SSAD operational process flow will be able to manage?
2. 3.1.5.5: How many potential users may be expected to use the System?

The SSAD ODP Community Questionnaire is available to view and complete here. The questionnaire will remain open until 22 July (23:59 UTC).

Questions related to the questionnaire should be directed to odp-ssad@icann.org.

About the SSAD ODP
The SSAD is a mechanism proposed to centrally handle requests for nonpublic registration data, outlined in Recommendations 1-18 of the Final Report of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) on the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data Phase 2. Due to the resource investment and complexity that would likely be required to implement the SSAD-related policy recommendations in a timely and predictable manner, the ICANN Board has requested an ODP to inform its deliberations, including whether the recommendations are in the best interests of the ICANN community or ICANN.

Conducted by ICANN org, the ODP will assess the potential risks, anticipated costs, resource requirements, timelines, dependencies, interaction with the Global Public Interest Framework that is currently being piloted, and other matters related to implementation of the GNSO Council-approved recommendations. The Board has requested that this ODP be completed within six months from the date of the Board's request, 25 March 2021, if there are no unforeseen legal or other matters that could affect the timeline. When the ODP is completed, ICANN org will deliver the Operational Design Assessment (ODA), the expected output of the ODP, to the ICANN Board and publish it on the SSAD ODP page for transparency.
