CANBERRA - IP Australia’s latest initiative, the Intellectual Property Data Platform, enables researchers and policy makers to investigate and interrogate data in a powerful cloud-based analytical environment to make decisions and to create economic and policy insights involving IP rights, trade and innovation, according to the official website of Australia Government IP.

The IP Data Platform currently contains all Australian IP data which is available through IP Government Open Data and IP Longitudinal Research Data, and international data on patents and trade marks. Researchers can compare data within and across these data collections and add their own to generate deeper economic insights and help improve data-driven decisions.

The TM-Link dataset, released on 26 April 2019, is the newest addition to the IP Platform and contains trade mark data from Australia, Canada, the European Union, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

TM-Link provides the ability to link data at the unit level (individual application level), which has not previously been available, and to compare these data with external datasets, for example industry and trade data, for the first time.
Over the coming months, we will be working internationally to expand our data and generate new reports that highlight insights and help make data more accessible.

Researchers, economists and analysts are invited to participate in a free trial of the IP Data Platform and to share insights generated with the community of users. The platform is being released as a beta, with a technical focus, with a view to releasing a general use platform before the end of the year. This will help us to innovate together and build a stronger IP data community.
