HA NOI - By April 2017, more than 400,000 .VN domain names have been maintained in the system, according to Vietnam Internet Network Information Center. 

In recent years, the annual growth rate of .VN has always been more than 10%, as well as the number of newly registered domain names growing over the years with similar growth rate.

Under the circumstance of more and more start-up businesses are launched within the few years, the relation between new business registrations and domain name registrations has proven to be more positive than ever. In the first three months of 2017, there were more 12.000 new business registrations, while more than 15.000 domain names were registered newly by organizations and businesses.

Mr. Le Nam Trung, Deputy Director General of VNNIC, the .VN ccTLD registry said: “the number of 400.000 domain names does not reflect the potential of Internet community in Vietnam, but is significantly contributed by the effort of both VNNIC and the .VN registrars”.

Despite still being outnumbered by gTLDs like .com, .net or .biz in Vietnam, .VN has had great improvements over the years, both in the growth rate and the market share of the ccTLD. There would be vast expectation for the domain name to surpass other gTLD with various measures to be taken in the near future, such as: improving the quality of Registrar services; improving the public services and customer service; expanding the value-added services of .VN; enhancing the fairness and transparency in both legal and business environment of .VN and other gTLDs; raising public awareness of Vietnam’s Internet users; moving the whole registration service of .VN online; providing the public with information about domain names.
