National Library Honors Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh

AMMAN - Under the patronage of HE Dr. Barakat Awajan, Minister of Culture, the Department of National Library honored HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, one of the leading sponsors of the “Your Book…Your Friend” Campaign at the Library Headquarters.
HE Mohammad Al Abbadi, the Department’s director general, thanked HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh for his support in sponsoring culture saying:" I thank you for all the efforts and for joining us here on this national cultural occasion, the National Book Week. We are a nation that admires the culture of a book, science and scientists. National and public libraries have become an achievement of modern countries and a pride. The Department of National Library seeks to support libraries in various areas of the Kingdom especially in the rural areas."
Meanwhile, HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh highlighted the role played by the Department of National Library in the society through preserving the intellectual heritage and scientific and cultural production, manuscripts, documents and books, pointing out that the modern countries pay extra attention to their libraries due to the fact that they reflect the heritage of the nation and their scientific, literary and cultural heritage.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh called on the Ministry of Culture to transform all books into digital and to be added to TAGIPIDIA, the first Arabic encyclopedia which celebrated its first phase during the MENA ICT Forum held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II. He also urged all organization to support the work of the Department of National Library.
"We are now in the process of transforming Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization into a knowledge organization to fit our modern plans, program and activities. We are the first to work on producing dictionaries in the fields of Accounting, Intellectual Property and law in addition to others," he added.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister and Mr. Al Abbadi presented an honorary shield to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh.
It’s worth noting that the Department of National Library has launched the “Your Book .. Your Friend” campaign on March 10, 2013 in cooperation with Jordan Libraries and Information Association and Jordanian Publishers Union. The campaign aims at encouraging reading and promoting culture as the National Library receives books from enterprises and individuals alike to distribute them in remote areas. Through the campaign, around 50.000 books and 15.000 fiction children books were distributed within one year.
