Oman no Longer Requires Legalization of Foreign Public Documents

MUSCAT - The Sultanate of Oman announced that legalization of foreign public documents would no longer be required, according to a press release by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP). The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Omani consulates abroad will no longer provide legalization services for documents if the applicant’s country is a member of Hague Convention.
This decision came as a result of Oman’s accession to the Hague Convention abolishing the requirements of legalization of foreign public documents, and it will enter into force as from January 30, 2012.
Accordingly, there is no need for legalization by Omani consulates abroad of documents issued by a state court; administrative documents; documents executed before a notary public and official certificates which are placed on documents signed by persons in their private capacity.
