Morocco Signs Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Tokyo

TOKYO - The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) took part in the signature ceremony of Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) held in Tokyo on October 1, 2011 with participation of eight countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States of America, a press release by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property stated.

The signature ceremony was also assisted by countries that negotiated ACTA and which are in the process of finalizing the internal procedure for signature, namely: European Union, Mexico and Switzerland.

By signing this agreement, Morocco which has hosted the 5th round of negotiations in July 2009, is now one of the founding countries of this important international legal instrument on Intellectual Property.

ACTA aims to establish a new international legal framework that countries can join in order to fight against the counterfeiting of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).
