Jordan's Forum on Economic Policy Support Committees’ Results Discussed

AMMAN - The Executive Committee of the Economic Policy Support Forum in Jordan has recently held a meeting at the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Graduate School of Business (TAGSB) to review and discuss the latest development and activities. .
The Executive Committee highly valued the acceptance of Nasser Judeh, Foreign Minister, to attend and participate in a session with members of the committee on “Jordan's Accession to the Gulf Cooperation Council /GCC” headed by Reem Badran.
Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Honorary President of the Forum renewed his appreciation for the response and interaction of state’s institutions with the Forum mentioning in particular Dr. Mohammad Abu Hammour, Minister of Finance who will be invited to a debate with the Committee on the State General Financial and Monetary Policies upon the suggestion of Dr. Khalid Al-Wazani, Chairman of the Committee. An invitation will also be addressed to Director General of the Income and Sales Tax to a panel discussion with the Committee.
The Executive Committee has decided – upon a proposal made by Al-Sharif Fawaz Sharaf, Vice-Chairman of the Forum- to adopt the intervention made by Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh in front of the Upper House as a framework for the Committees, as it contained important information that would lead to effective remedy.
The Executive Committee adopted the proposal made by President of the Forum Dr. Taher Kanaan to prepare a research paper based on the mentioned intervention -before the preparation of the Jordan’s next fiscal budget - so as to present ideas contained therein that aim at supporting the national economy.
The Forum’s General Coordinator Laith Al Qasem also suggested the need to define the important topics for each committee and to identify as well any existing gaps or deficiencies, and then to come up with recommendations to demonstrate and confirm the relevance of information in the framework of coordination with heads of committees, so as to facilitate the task of obtaining these information through coordination with the concerned ministries.
Al Qasem announced the launch of the website of the Forum (www.ecojostate.com), which will have among its team of writers specialized experts and officials and is expected to become a base for research, proposals and opinions that would ultimately serve and support economic policies.
Moreover, the Forum will create, under the supervision of Mr. Suleiman Al-Hafiz, a database specifically for economic experts and economists working in the academic, public and private sectors, as well as specialists in economic affairs; this database will constitute an important reference of expertise existing in the country.
The Forum will also be communicating and interacting with universities to benefit from the masters and doctoral students in conducting specialized economic research that would serve and increase our economic knowledge.
It was decided at the meeting to formulate a support group of advisers in different disciplines from Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Consulting Co. so as to analyze and study information provided by the committees, and to set up a team of researchers from the students of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Graduate School of Business that will be tasked with the collection of information determined by the Chairmen of the Committees and bodies concerned in the country. Moreover, it was decided to address official letters to ministries and authorities concerned in the state to nominate liaison officer from each ministry to facilitate the fulfillment of the team’s assignment to collect information.
In addition, the Executive Committee has decided to hold the next general meeting of the Forum on September 12, 2011 under the chairmanship of Dr. Taher Kanaan and heads of Committees.
