AMMAN - The Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA) amended its name by adding the word “international” to become the “International Arab Society of Certified Accountants”.

This decision, taken by the Board of Directors and the General Assembly at ASCA’s annual meeting held in Dubai last year, comes in line with the global standing of ASCA as a member of various major international bodies such as IASB and IFAC.

On the other hand, ASCA will begin to implement its development plan aiming at transforming its professional programs to electronic versions to be provided by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University (TAGIUNI) in addition to rendering these programs in other languages besides Arabic, which require changing the name to be in line with its actual identity.

It is worth mentioning that ASCA is recognized and accredited by many Arab countries including Lebanon, UAE, Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Qatar, Sudan, Libya and Oman, where it has been listed in most of these countries among the accredited professional bodies for the profession of auditing and its certificate has been accredited as a license for the practice of auditing.

ASCA was established on January 12, 1984 as a non-profit professional accounting association in London, UK. It was formally registered in Amman on February 24, 1994 under the name “The Arab Society of Certified Accountants”. It aims at advancing the profession of accounting, auditing and other related disciplines in the countries of the League of Arab States. ASCA also aims at maintaining the professional independence of Arab accountants and their protection, as well as the application of professional supervisory measures as a way to elevate the professions of accounting and auditing. It also aims at developing and facilitating the continuous spread and exchange of professional and technical information among accountants and professionals.
