LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced the release of a new ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) page. The page offers a collection of public reports on activities and incidents related to the IMRS prepared by ICANN's Security and Network Engineering (SaNE) team, a press release by ICANN stated.

ICANN publishes monthly reports on the operational status of the IMRS, known within the Domain Name System (DNS) as L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET.

The reports contain useful information regarding the performance indicators for DNS queries, operational indicators for security incidents related to IMRS and other events, and size and location of the IMRS (for example number of instances by ICANN regions).

For the month of August 2021, the team reported that:

There were no outstanding issues related to security or unplanned downtime.
There were no observed anomalies in DNS Traffic to the IMRS.

The IMRS is part of the Root Server System (RSS), of which there are thousands of root server instances located around the world. ICANN manages more than 180 IMRS instances, most of which are hosted by third parties. The installation of IMRS instances improves root zone DNS service and augments the technical stability and resiliency of the DNS in the region where each is installed. This technical activity contributes to ICANN's mission to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifier systems.
